Achievements


Some major achievements / high lights from the year 1965 to the year 2002.

1965 to 1990

  • A memorandum was submitted to the Municipal Commissioner for speedy disposal and approval of building proposals.


  • On forceful representation against ex-party restrictions imposed by the Municipal administration, a committee was appointed by the Municipal Corporation to review over all policies causing delay and to make the procedures simple and transparent.


  • A symposium on "Speedy disposal and approval of building proposals" was held with active participation of Municipal officials.


  • A memorandum was submitted to the Municipal authorities resenting introduction of NOC's from Hydraulic Engineer and Assessor and Collector before granting development permission. (C. C.).


  • PEATA's concept of Licensing Structural Engineers was accepted by the Municipal Corporation and made it mandatory for all proposals.


  • Suggestions and objections for proposed Model Bye-Laws (1978) were submitted to Govt. of Maharashtra.


  • Suggestions and objections were submitted to "Kerkar Committee" for making reforms in ULC Act and Rent control Act.


  • A writ petition was filed in the Mumbai High Court against Govt. of Maharashtra in the matter of deletion of development u/s 21 of ULC Act.


  • Complication of Municipal circulars from 1966 to 1983 was completed in Three (3) volumes subject wise, and made available as a reference document, for the professionals and administration. The exercise was appreciated by all the sectors.


  • A Writ-Petition was filed against Municipal Corporation resisting compulsory requirements of affidavit by Architect for the area of plot, which policy subsequently was withdrawn by the M. C. G. M.


  • PEATA office bearers attended 4 full day hearings before statutory committee for revision of Development Plan of Gr. Mumbai with studied objections and suggestions.


  • "Greek-Book", a draft code of practice for all component agencies in building industry jointly authored by Shri. L. D. Babladi, Shri. Satish Dhupelia and Shri. Natubhai Badheka was published.

1991-2002

  • First time, 'Building Proposal Manual' a joint exercise of the Municipal Corporation and PEATA was published.


  • Submitted voluminous objections and suggestions to Draft D. C. Rules to Govt. of Maharashtra.


  • Organised 2 days National symposium on "National Housing Policy & Housing Opportunities (HOPE-89)". The seminar had a unique feature. For the first time involvement of Judges, Administrators, Lawyers, Builders, Chartered Accountants and Technocrats.


  • Recognition to 'Location plans endorsed by PEATA' by the Civil aviation Authority for issue of N. O. C. for permissible height of buildings in and around Airport's influence zones.


  • Recognition to PEATA's recommendations for repairs and reconstruction to "Khan Committee" appointed by M. C. G. M. Majority suggestions were accepted and put in practice.


  • Separate waiting areas are made available for PEATA Members at each Building Proposals offices i.e. Kandivali, Bandra, Byculla & Ghatkopar.


  • PEATA's Notice Board for display of day-to-day activities are provided at all Building Proposals and Development Plan Department.


  • PEATA's nomination on the Sheriff's Committee constituted by then Mumbai Sheriff, Shri Subir Kumar Chaudhury on "Preservation of Building Collapes".


  • Speedy approval from the Director (E. S. & P.) on application, for granting benefit of staircase, lift and lift passage areas, discarding earlier cumbersome procedure.


  • Shifting of Association's office from smaller premises at Fort, in a large present furnished premises at Mahim.


  • Publication of Hand-Book on D. C. Regulations - 1991.


  • At-a-time renewal of license of Licensed Surveyors and Structural Engineers, for a block period of 5 years, as against routine one year.


  • With continuos resistance to "Undertaking being insisted for demolition of excess F. S. I. / fraudulent F. S. I. and payment of deposit thereof", was withdrawn by M. C. G. M.


  • Two day's successful Seminar organised jointly with Mumbai Fire Brigade on "Fire Safety in Highrise Buildings" clubed with Exhibition thereof attended by Chief Fire Officers from New Delhi, Nagpur, Pune etc.


  • Services and assistance provided to fellow members for block registration of professionals with Service Tax Authority.


  • PEATA started giving annually, Awards to 'Best Fire Officers' and 'Best Fireman' of the year to the nominees of Mumbai Fire Brigade.


  • PEATA joined as intervener in appeal against charging of premium for staircase and lift area, before appellate authority i.e. Hon. Minister U. D. Govt. of Maharashtra.


  • In the matter of Service Tax, PEATA's nominee was accepted on the Advisory Committee of Mumbai - Region, appointed by Govt.


  • Release of Book "Real Estate Transactions and How to Construct and maintain Buildings" authored by Shri. Sudhakr Dokane - Past President PEATA. Now 2nd edition is published.


  • Compilation of Municipal and Govt. Circulars from 1966 to 2002. Compact Disc. (C. D.) of circulars will be published shortly.


  • Ensuing publication: PEATA PARIVAR, a History, Achievements and Directory of PEATA Members.
